GREENHEAD COLLEGE

Phoenix Brickwork was appointed by Galliford Try to deliver key masonry works as part of the £25 million redevelopment of Greenhead College in Huddersfield.

The project involved the construction of a new sixth-form college campus, creating modern teaching and learning facilities while connecting two existing buildings and improving the sustainability of the wider site.

Located within the Greenhead Park Conservation Area, the project required careful consideration of the surrounding historic environment. The site is close to several historic buildings, including the former high school for girls dating from 1907, as well as the Grade II-listed Greenhead Park.

The redevelopment was designed to create a more coherent college campus by integrating the new building with the existing blocks. The new facilities provide contemporary teaching, social and study spaces while complementing the character of the surrounding historic buildings.

A key objective of the scheme was also to reduce the college's reliance on non-green energy sources, supporting a more sustainable future for the campus.

Phoenix Brickwork delivered a range of specialist masonry works across the development, including:

  • Brickwork to the main building
  • Feature recessed panels
  • Brickwork to the infill building
  • Blockwork at ground-floor level
  • Detailed masonry works designed to complement the existing buildings and surrounding architecture

Particular attention was given to the feature recessed panels and brickwork detailing, helping to create a high-quality external appearance that works alongside both the new and historic elements of the campus.

The completed development provides Greenhead College with modern teaching, social and study facilities while successfully connecting the existing campus buildings.

Phoenix Brickwork's masonry package contributed to the delivery of a high-quality, cohesive development, combining traditional brickwork with contemporary architectural detailing to create a new campus that respects its historic surroundings.
