HUDDERSFIELD CULTURAL HEART

As part of the Our Cultural Heart regeneration project in Huddersfield, Phoenix Brickwork (UK) Ltd was appointed by BAM Construction to deliver a specialist package of works for Phase 1. The project forms part of a wider transformation of the former Queensgate Market into a vibrant cultural and community destination for Kirklees.

The wider project aims to transform the former Queensgate Market into a new cultural destination, including a food hall and library, alongside wider public realm and regeneration works.

During Phase 1, Phoenix’s package included:

  • Brickwork and internal blockwork
  • Specialist stonework and masonry
  • Steel Framing Systems (SFS)
  • Drylining
  • Suspended ceilings
  • Acoustic finishes

The works required a high level of workmanship and close coordination, particularly where new construction interfaced with the existing building. Phoenix worked closely with BAM Construction, the design team and wider supply chain to coordinate the specialist trades and maintain the required quality and programme.

Working within the existing building presented logistical and technical challenges, including restricted working areas, interfaces between new and existing structures, and the sequencing of multiple trades.

Phoenix’s multi-trade capability enabled the company to deliver a coordinated specialist package for BAM Construction, contributing to Phase 1 of the transformation of the former market into a modern cultural and community facility for Huddersfield and the wider Kirklees community.
