ST CATHERINE'S COLLEGE

  • VALUE: £515,000.00
  • CONTRACTOR: Buckingham Group
  • LOCATION: Oxford, Oxfordshire

The facing brickwork and internal blockwork package secured by Phoenix for repeat client Buckingham Group, saw us engage for the construction of three new pavilions and a new graduate centre, allowing the College to double its existing student on-site accommodation spaces. When it opened in 1962, St Catherine’s was Oxford’s first example of pure Modernist architecture, giving it a distinct identity and it was important that the latest additions complemented the original designs. Architects Purcell designed the £10million addition to the College incorporating quarter bond buff facing brickwork to match the existing brickwork on site with 52mm deep bricks and an 8mm bed creating a very linear, contemporary appearance to the facework element of the façade.
