"Build the Future" is the theme for the National Apprenticeship Week 2021 (8-12 February), aiming to encourage everyone to consider how apprenticeships help individuals to build the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career.
It celebrates apprentices across the UK who are gaining hands-on experience in their chosen industry, while earning a salary and working towards academic qualifications.
Here we speak to Dylan (Quantity Surveyor Apprentice) about his experience so far.
Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?
I chose an apprenticeship over university as I prefer learning on the job because I feel I benefit more from working with more experienced people and visiting site then I would in a classroom.
What do you like most about your apprenticeship at Phoenix Brickwork?
The part of my apprenticeship I like the most is visiting different sites and working in the Phoenix team, interacting with people to get a positive end result.
What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?
The benefits of doing an apprenticeship are that you are able to gather experience and contacts while also learning new skills.
Do you have any advice for young people that are considering an apprenticeship?
If you enjoy hands on working then it would definitely be the way forwards as it allows you to gain the experience needed while also learning the trade.
