"Build the Future" is the theme for the National Apprenticeship Week 2021 (8-12 February), aiming to encourage everyone to consider how apprenticeships help individuals to build the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career.
It celebrates apprentices across the UK who are gaining hands-on experience in their chosen industry, while earning a salary and working towards academic qualifications.
Here we speak to Harry (Brickwork Apprentice) about his experience so far.
Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?
I chose an apprenticeship over university as I thought it would give me a better chance at learning my trade working on site with others aswell as being paid for it at the same time.
What do you like most about your apprenticeship at Phoenix Brickwork?
Everyone has always been really easy to get along with and have always helped me out if ever I have needed it.
What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?
There are many benefits to choosing an apprenticeship but I think the biggest benefit is working with others who are very experienced at the same job that you’re learning actually helps you pick things up and improve a lot quicker than you would just learning on your own.
Do you have any advice for young people that are considering an apprenticeship?
I would say definitely choose to do an apprenticeship it is the best way to learn what actually goes on day to day on a site or wherever depending on what you’re learning. You get to meet new people get help from them to improve and ask advice, while you’re learning more each time you go to work then use what you learn to use at college which you will also be paid for.
