Phoenix Group are excited to have secured the masonry with associated scaffold and the SFS packages at the new prison being built at Glen Parva, granted by the main contractor Lendlease. The supply and fix package, worth in excess of £1.5 million, commences on site in May this year with ongoing design and procurement already underway. This will ensure a smooth start on this 35-week contract taking our package into early 2022, and involves the construction of 7 houseblocks, kitchen, workshop and other ancillary buildings. The new category C resettlement prison is to be built using eco-friendly, cutting-edge techniques. Once operational, it will hold 1,680 male prisoners and is being built on the site of the former Glen Parva Young Offenders Institute. .
Scheduled for completion by spring 2023, the prison is expected to create around 150 jobs and apprenticeships during construction and around 600 jobs once operational.
Phoenix are very pleased to be working alongside Lendlease for the first time and hope that this is the start of an ongoing relationship with the construction giant. Working with the construction team has been a pleasure thus far and we are looking forward to starting on site in late spring.
